Privacy Policy
Snapbak is built to be local‑first. Your screenshots, recordings, GIFs, transcripts, notes, and dictation stay on your Mac unless you explicitly choose to send them somewhere. This policy explains what little data we do handle, and why.
The short version
- We never see your screen, recordings, voice, or transcripts by default.
- Recordings and screenshots are written to your disk only. Nothing uploads unless you choose to share it.
- Dictation is processed on‑device, always. Audio is not stored unless you turn on “keep audio.”
- Telemetry and crash reporting are opt‑in, and never include capture content, file names, window titles, URLs, transcripts, or keystrokes.
- This website uses cookie‑less analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics). No ad trackers.
Data that stays on your Mac
Everything you capture with Snapbak lives in your local library: screenshots, recordings, GIFs, browser context captured by the Snapbak extension, transcripts, AI notes, and dictation history. We have no access to it.
When data leaves your Mac
Snapbak only makes network requests for:
- License checks and app updates.
- Opt‑in telemetry and crash reports, if you enable them during onboarding or in Settings.
- Actions you start yourself, such as using a bring‑your‑own‑key (BYOK) AI provider, Snapbak Cloud AI (when available), creating a share link, or sending a capture to an integration.
When you use a BYOK or cloud AI provider, Snapbak sends only the transcript and event text needed for the task, not video frames, and always shows you which provider is in use. Data sent to a third‑party provider you configure is governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy.
The app’s Network activity settings page lists every kind of request Snapbak can make.
The Snapbak browser extension
The extension captures console logs, network requests, and user actions only on sites where it is enabled. It is off in incognito windows unless you allow it, excludes banking and password‑manager domains by default, and redacts headers, cookies, tokens, and keys. Captured browser data goes only to the Snapbak desktop app on your Mac.
Data we collect on this website
- Waitlist sign‑ups: your email address, and optionally what you’d use Snapbak for. We use this only to tell you about early access and product launches.
- Contact messages: your name, email, and message, used only to reply to you.
- Analytics: aggregate, cookie‑less page‑view statistics from Cloudflare Web Analytics. No personal profiles and no cross‑site tracking.
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use your content to train AI models.
Retention and deletion
You can delete any capture from your Mac at any time. To remove your email from the waitlist or ask about any data we hold, email [email protected] and we’ll take care of it promptly.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced in the changelog.
