Features

One lightweight app replaces four.

Polished recording, screenshots, dictation, GIF exports, AI notes, and the notch that ties them together — built for the way product teams actually work.

Capture

One hotkey. A screenshot that's safe to paste.

Drag an area, click a window, or grab a whole display; press S to scroll a page into one tall image, and T to grab its text. Before anything leaves your hands, Smart Redact finds the emails, keys, and faces — on the device — and blurs them.

  • Capture to clipboard in about 150 ms, with a 300 ms cap for a full‑screen grab.
  • Scrolling capture stitches long pages without visible seams.
  • Smart Redact finds emails, card numbers, and keys with no network calls.
Screenshot demo: the scan finds private text, blurs it, and marks a line with a numbered callout

Studio

Looks edited, without the editing.

When you stop recording, the zooms already follow your clicks and the cursor glides — you only tweak. Delete a flubbed retake by deleting its words in the transcript, remove every “um” in one click, and burn in word‑by‑word captions.

  • Cuts land on word boundaries, so the video, mic, and camera tracks stay in sync.
  • Filler removal catches the “ums” and long pauses, with a review list first.
  • Captions export burned in, or as SRT and VTT for YouTube.
Studio demo: a recording plays with burned-in captions while its transcript types itself, a filler word is struck out, and AI notes land

Dictation

Talk instead of type. Even offline.

Hold a key, speak, let go — clean text lands in whatever app you're in. It's English‑only, on purpose: the Parakeet model runs on your Mac's Neural Engine, and there is no cloud speech engine in the product.

  • About 2.3% word error rate on LibriSpeech test‑clean, measured on the shipped engine.
  • Median half a second from key‑up to text on an M4, with zero network traffic.
  • A personal dictionary spells names and jargon right, using “sounds like” hints.
Dictation demo: spoken words appear as text while the mic pill listens, then the pill confirms the insert

Meetings — planned

Meeting minutes, without the meeting bot.

In development: bot‑free meeting capture from the meeting apps' audio plus your microphone, a live local transcript, and minutes with decisions and action items. The animation is the design direction — planned for a later release.

  • Nothing joins the call: capture is local, from the meeting apps' audio and your mic.
  • A live local transcript separates Me from Them as they speak.
  • Minutes assemble after: decisions, action items with owners, and open questions.
  • Consent tooling by design — an announce snippet, a per‑meeting opt‑out, no voiceprints by default.
Planned meetings concept, labelled in development: a meeting's waveform and a live transcript with speaker labels, then minutes assembling decisions and action items

Extension + reports

Bug reports that write themselves.

The desktop app records pixels; the extension adds the browser's side — console, network, and user actions, over a local, authenticated channel. Record what broke and the repro steps are already drafted from the clicks, routes, and the error that followed.

  • Repro steps are built from the captured events, not guessed by a model.
  • Sensitive headers are redacted, and password fields are never captured.
  • Export as Markdown for GitHub, Linear, and Jira, or one offline HTML report.

AI notes

Every capture ends with its notes.

Stop any recording and the notes are already there: a title, a summary, chapters, and action items. Where macOS offers an on‑device model it runs there; otherwise bring your own key — and only the transcript text is sent, never video frames.

  • Notes arrive in about half a minute for a ten‑minute recording.
  • On‑device where the OS offers it, or your own key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Groq.
  • A per‑capture switch turns AI off entirely; notes export as Markdown.

Also inside

Everything else in the box.

The small things, each one a reason to keep Snapbak running. Planned features wear their tag; nothing here is a maybe.

  • Notch Shelf

Drag files onto the notch to park them, then drag them out into any app or folder.

  • Notch island

Recording, dictation, and the shelf live in one dark island — no HUD, no menu‑bar icon.

  • Clean capture

Snapbak's own windows and HUD never appear in a screenshot or a recording.

  • Recording health

Dropped frames, a full disk, or an unplugged mic raises an alert within two seconds.

  • Scrolling capture

Scroll a long page once and it stitches into one tall image, without seams.

  • OCR text grab

Select any area and its text lands on your clipboard, on the device, in about half a second.

  • Smart Redact

One click blurs emails, card numbers, keys, and faces — detected on the device, never uploaded.

  • Beautify

Drop a screenshot onto a wallpaper or window frame, sized for X, Product Hunt, or a link card.

  • Keystroke overlay

Show your shortcuts on the recording; keys typed into password fields never appear.

  • Filler‑word removal

Every “um” and long pause goes in one click, with a review list before anything is cut.

  • Edit by transcript

Delete words in the transcript to cut the video, mic, and camera tracks together.

  • GIF under 10 MB

Export a GIF with a size estimate and a cap that fits it under GitHub's limit.

  • Dictation history

Recent dictations stay searchable, with copy and re‑insert; you set the retention.

  • Custom dictionary

Teach it names and jargon once, with “sounds like” hints, and they come out right.

  • Privacy pause

Recording auto‑pauses over password managers and banking apps, on lock, or on one click.

  • Battery‑aware capture

On Low Power Mode, recording eases its frame rate and bitrate down instead of draining the Mac.

  • Hotkeys & conflict detection

Every action has a configurable hotkey, and conflicts are caught at setup.

  • Onboarding tour

A two‑minute first run checks permissions and walks through one capture of each kind.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does Snapbak work offline?

Yes. Core capture, screenshots, on‑device dictation, and local AI notes work without an internet connection.

What Macs are supported?

Snapbak requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later on Apple Silicon. We may add Intel Mac support later.

How big is the app?

We target a ~15–20 MB installer and well under 100 MB of RAM at idle — far smaller than most cross‑platform alternatives.

Will a recorder slow my Mac down?

Not by design. When the Mac is under load or on Low Power Mode, recording eases its frame rate and bitrate down instead of competing with your work.

Can I use Snapbak for meeting recordings?

Not in v1.0. Meeting minutes and device recording are planned for a later release.
